The Herrmann Family has owned and operated Herrmann’s Royal Lipizzans in Myakka City, Florida, since 1962. During that time we have proudly trained and shown our horses in the classical European tradition, inviting guests to come and witness what is rapidly becoming a dying art.
The Lipizzan is one of the most famous, yet endangered, breeds in the world. During World War II, the horses, at the time nearly exclusively owned by the Austrian government, were seized and held by Russian forces. Hearing of their plight and the threat of extinction for these beautiful white horses, General George Patton implemented Operation Cowboy wherein he sent Colonel Charles Reed and American forces into Russian to evacuate close to 300 mares, stallions, and foals from behind enemy lines.
In appreciation for all their efforts, the Spanish Riding School of Vienna gave the American forces a private performance after the horses were rescued, something that had never been done before as the horses were treasures of the Austrian government.
In 1962, the Herrmann family brought their Lipizzans to the United States. We are now in our fifth generation of Herrmann riders. We are dedicated to continuing this family tradition and educating people about this rare and talented breed as well as a style of training that has been acknowledged as far back in history as Xenophon the Greek.
Please help us to continue.
Thank you, thank you very much.
